چکیده

This paper studies the application of Innnitesimal Perturbation Analysis (IPA) to gradient estimation of loss-related performance measures in a class of Continuous Flow Models (CFM). We observe that CFM's constitute a suitable application domain for IPA, and show that IPA estimators of loss-related performance measures can be computed by algorithms requiring modest computational resources. Furthermore, these IPA estimators are shown to be unbiased by a general technique that utilizes the basic structure of CFM's, and could possibly be extended to other performance measures. The paper treats mainly single-server CFM's, but possible extensions to CFM networks are touched upon. Applications to telecommunications, and especially to high-speed communications networks, are discussed.

Gradient Estimation of Two - Stage Continuous Transfer Lines Subject to Operation - Dependent Failures

This paper addresses the gradient estimation of transfer lines comprising two machines separated by a buffer of finite capacity. A continuous flow model is considered, where machines are subject to operation-dependent failures, i.e., a machine cannot fail when it is idle. Both repair times and failure times may be general, i.e., they need not be exponentially distributed. The system is hybrid i...

Simulation of IPA gradients in hybrid network systems

Infinitesimal Perturbation Analysis (IPA) provides formulas for derivatives (gradients) of performance measures with respect to parameters of interest, computed from sample paths of stochastic systems. In practice, IPA derivatives may be computed either from simulation runs or from empirical field data (when the formulas are non-parametric). Nonparametric IPA derivatives in fluid-flow queues ha...

On-Line IPA Gradient Estimators in Stochastic Continuous Fluid Models

This paper applies Infinitesimal Perturbation Analysis (IPA) to loss-related and workloadrelated metrics in a class of Stochastic Flow Models (SFM). It derives closed-form formulas for gradient estimators of these metrics with respect to various parameters of interest, such as buffer size, service rate and inflow rate. The IPA estimators derived are simple and fast to compute, and are further s...

A method of performance estimation for axial-flow turbines based on losses prediction

The main objective in this paper is creating a method for one-dimensional modeling of multi stage axial flow turbine. The calculation used in this technique is based on common thermodynamics and aerodynamics principles in a mean stream line analyses. In this approach, loss models have to be used to determine the entropy increase across each section in the turbine stage. Finally, the analysis an...

Comparing the performance of GARCH (p,q) models with different methods of estimation for forecasting crude oil market volatility

The use of GARCH models to characterize crude oil price volatility is widely observed in the empirical literature. In this paper the efficiency of six univariate GARCH models and two methods of estimation the parameters for forecasting oil price volatility are examined and the best method for forecasting crude oil price volatility of Brent market is determined. All the examined models in this p...
